As far as glow plugs, I would consider the following to be the better ones on the market: Bosch Beru Monark NGK
Best Glow plug for Volkswagen Golf
Diesels have better economy and decent torque, but I don't like the kle-kle-kle and shaking like a crackhead. Also, they cost more to maintain so fuel economy goes out the window at certain point. Glow plugs, DPF, EGR, injectors seizing up are pretty expensive things to change.
You should not drive them short distances, they like getting hot and ready for chugging along for hours, otherwise the parts mentioned gets clogged up quicker.
The only thing I\u2019ve ever had go bad in my four years of ownership are glow plugs.
Long before I read all that bad stuff online about the Ford crowd having trouble with autolite gp's I installed them in my 86 Golf and have been on the same gp's now for at least five years. I'm sure they need to be checked but I can't say much bad about them tbh.
