A friend of a buddy of mine has a '12 WRX and he did a 2019 STI rack swap on it - I was able to test drive it for an evening and I love the slightly harder feel and tighter turn.
2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness owner here, got the same issue, started at about 38000km. Now an hour commute to work and the sticky steering is driving me bonkers!
My 2013 WRX has a 2020 STI one that the previous owner installed. It’s super good
I have a 13 WRX, had the 15+ sti steering rack for 2 years now. I think it feels much better then the stock one! No issues with TC or VDC.
The STI rack blows. There is no need for a faster ratio and all it does in reality is make the steering bizarrely stiff and heavy. The STI rack truly sucks for motorsports. Trying going lock to lock with steering that heavy and big sticky tires. It's a workout and your times will suffer. And it's just plain annoying on the street.
Have on in my 14 sti, love it. Not sure how different the electronic systems are from wrx to sti but no issues with about 5k miles on it.
I think it’s improved slightly. The new steering rack is similar to the one in the WRX.
Had to replace the power steering rack (OEM) from an outside Subaru specialty repair shop for $1100. OEM rack, fluid $640, labor & alignment $480.
I had the steering rack in my 2016 STI replaced at an independent Subaru shop and it was $730 for an OEM rack and $525 in labor not including a power steering flush and alignment.
I just put in a remanufactured $150 rack and it's a huge (bad) difference.
