Using Vcds and advice from Ross-Tech, the judgement was the RR abs sensor wasn’t working- cheap and easy fix to try first. I ordered a Bosch, made in Germany , cost was about US$35-40, part number 0986594560, got it from Amazon. While waiting for the part, the 7 lights would go away and come back, my cruise control would kick off. I replaced the sensor in my daughter’s driveway, had to buy a couple of tools, and all the lights went away. I returned home from Ottawa yesterday, 1552kms in 14 hours, including stops. Car worked flawlessly, got 900kms on a tank of 87 octane.

Daughter just called the shop, and they said they did also have to replace the ABs sensor; and that it alone was about $150. OK, that's the MSRP for a "Genuine VW/Audi" sensor.
Cons: expensive MSRP price
Vehicle:
Volkswagen
