Alternator OEM Toyota or OEM KIA

OEM KIA Alternator

I own a rio 2013. di ko gets bat marami parin nagsabi ng walang parts available sa kia e nasa shopee lang lahat. madali lang rin ayusin, naka DIY na ako nagpalit ng alternator, clock spring, ignition coils at eps motor. halos lahat ng fix nasa youtube lang.

Pros: parts available, easy to repair
Vehicle: Kia Rio

For any other car it would be replace but it's a Camry, those items especially water pump and alternator generally needs replacing at 220k but as long as you replace them with OEM Toyota parts you'll be good for years to come.

Pros: good for years to come
Cons: cheap aftermarket parts fail
Vehicle: Toyota Camry
Mileage: 220000 km

I\u2019m 43 and only have had 3 cars in my life only Corollas and Camry. I get a new one around 250k miles. They are great reliable cars that run well with basic maintenance. Only wear and tear items have I ever replaced with the exception of an alternateer on one of my corollas at around 200k miles. As long as I can keep going to 250k I will keep buying them.

Pros: great reliable cars
Vehicle: Toyota Corolla
Mileage: 402336 km

OEM Toyota Alternator

My last OEM Toyota alternator made it to 250K miles. My future non-Toyota ones failed because they were cheap remanufactured ones and later I found a failing harmonic balancer that was putting extra pressure on bearings of the alternator

Pros: long lifespan (OEM Toyota)
Cons: failed (non-Toyota remanufactured)
Vehicle: Toyota
Mileage: 250000 km

I had an 08 Rio that I bought used in 2011 barely used. It was good for a couple of years but once things started to go it was one thing after another. Alternator twice, the starter.

Pros: good for a couple years
Cons: alternator failed twice
Vehicle: Kia Rio

Unfortunately it’s proprietary Hyundai/Kia part. It’s now a common problem that if the alternator goes, so does the transmission because the low voltage fries the shift control solenoid. Lots of people complaining about this and yes, it happened to me.

Cons: proprietary part, common failure, fries transmission
Vehicle: Kia

My alternator in my 2007 V6 RAV4 died just under 2 years ago (Dec 2023), and I got it replaced at a local Toyota dealership. Now, about 20k miles later, I needed a jump start 2 days in a row, and O'Reilly Auto Parts battery tester said the alternator is dead again. Most sources say replacement alternators should last 5-10 years.

Cons: premature failure, short lifespan
Vehicle: Toyota
Mileage: 32187 km
