I had a shop this year do a warranty replacement on three power steering pumps on my Honda accord.
I had my 2000 323CI original LUK LF 20 replaced with LUK LF 30 model. The difference was quite noticeable.
The p/s pump is easy to take apart and inspect the vanes to clean them. I would caution you if you decide to take yours apart, to keep an eye on the needle bearings and not lose any.
That noise is the power steering pump. Yes, its always that noisy. No, unless you see a leak or the pump is still OEM i wouldn't worry.
But now I've fixed so much on it. Wheel bearings, clutch, struts, tires, control arms, belts, plugs, headlights and now the little bastard needs a new power steering pump and more belts.
One of my neighbors has a first Gen pilot, and I can identify it by the power steering pump whining.

Was super fun. Broke down about once every 3-6 months. Power steering pump was first. Then had to replace the entire wiring harness. Then A/C compressor. Then timing chain guides. Then throttle body.
I bought one from Meyle and it didnt even fit properly, sent it back
