Belt squeak could be a drive belt tensioner, easy way to diagnose is spray some WD40 or similar on into the tensioner bearing to see if the noise disappears. Replace it if it does.

I changed the glow plugs on my 2001 A6 and I'm fairly sure they have never been done.
I was in a position where I didn't need to use it for weeks so I just took my time with it - soak them up with WD40 for days at a time and slowly loosen them up. Didn't break any but I had to have patience to leave them overnight to soak when they were feeling tight.
I did that with my license plate screws, let it sit overnight and they came right out
They've been screeching like banshees when they move. I washed the blades down with a cloth and WD40. They're back to quiet and I won't drive off a cliff due to the uncomfortable noise any more.
