You may consider cleaning the glass with a glass cleaner like invisible glass. You may also want to put an application of Rain-X on your windshield. Some people hate using products like that. However I love it. It makes visibility so much better.

I love rainx, in heavy rain at speeds above 40mph, it is magic. Anything lower that that, you need to use wipers and it streaks then.

I have been using Rain-X since 1986 and have recommended it as if I owned the damn company ever since. Recently though I just started polishing the glass and then waxing it like the rest of the car. It's cheaper, lasts MUCH longer and works just as well.

I use RainX on my windshields, and replace the wipers at the first sign of streaking.
