I bought one off RockAuto that's the same part manufacturer as OEM (Mitsubishi). Part was in the $200-300 range. If you are handy under the hood, the work wasn't bad.

I have one (Mitsubishi Pajero mk11983). It has a 2.3 turbo diesel.
I used to drive it pretty rough. It can take a beating. No major problems. Broke a leal spring, but I replaced it for cheap.

I had 2 of those. Swapped the top end, gas tank and some of the interior.
When we had to replace the timing chain we had to carve a sturdy hook into a stick to get the right leverage.
These things are so much fun off-road.
