Catalysts are another one, I can’t buy magnaflow/walker cats that reasonable anywhere local, I’ll wait if the customer is good with it for the savings.

I recently bought an 86 and got it CA smogged after it sat for 10 years. Did a rebuilt kit for the stock carb, Walker Hitachi DFB306. Had to get a new CA compliant cat which I went with the Magnaflow 339104.
Just installed a rebuilt c60, mwr fly wheel, and exedy clutch. Mwr lightweight alternator pulley and alternator. Kyb suspension. T3 sway bar and control arms. Magnaflow cat. S2000 seats. Breast plate bracing And a bunch of oem replacement parts to pass smog. 2000 mr2 spyder
A new catalythic converter typically costs $350 (material + labor). I paid $650 to have both main cats replaced on a Mercedes, which had a 5 liter V8 (much bigger engine than your Kia Soul).
MagnaFlow high flow cats are quality and inexpensive
I have a newer magnaflow on my DC2 and I have no check engine lights. I also have a magnaflow on my golf that replaced a hollowed cat and it kept the old car exhaust smell away for about 5 years before I could faintly smell it again.
I've been running a magnaflow highflow cat on my oil burning honda and it still seems solid for the last 3 years, car doesn't seem choked up by it either...
Tha catalytic converter is only 6 months old, but it's ine of those crappy "direct fit" MagnaFlow units.
I had AA with Magnaflow 200s for about 30k miles on mine when I had it. UM tune, intake, TT cams. No LC or NLS though. But didn't drive the car like a grandma but no track days. Never heard a rattle.
Last year, i had Argon Addicts make me a HFC pipe, which had the magnaflow 300cell ceramics. Only took 800 miles, yep, 800, for one of them to fail and fall apart. Had noticed the same noise.
