Comma Xstream G48 coolant is the correct spec if you want to save a couple bucks over BMW coolant.

I use comma g48 in mine. Compatible with BMW coolant and seems to work fine and is a decent price if you buy it neat.

I might try comma motorsport 5w50 when the summer comes though.
Pros: better protection
Coolant ran out and since using this coolant (which was selected based on Halfords recommendation) the coolant has been running out weekly (with no obvious leaks) and the temperature gauge hitting the red after 10 minutes of driving. Not had any issues previously. Does using the wrong coolant cause these problems, or is there potentially something wrong with the coolant system?
Cons: coolant running out, engine overheating
