Here in holland we do every 15000km(9000 miles) or every year depending on which you reach first a small maintenance ,which includes oil change, air filter replacement, oil filter, full check up on components and hybrid health check, rotating tyres.
The dealer OEM red colored filters are really the best and not much more expensive than aftermarket.
Original Toyota quality filters are not that expensive and are superior.
I have a 2003 Camry at 218k miles with no issues. I use standard air filters you can purchase at any auto parts store that fit the model.
new air filter is in too.
Always buy the Toyota original engine air filter or you will lose mpg.
Thanks for posting this. I just bought a '91 MR2 and I've replaced all the filters... except this one... probably why the air is so bad.
