I have a 'one-wire' Hitachi forklift alternator on my Alpine. Been on there for a decade or more with no issues.

If you're using no-name or store-brand alternators from auto parts stores, those are hit or miss. You can get DENSO, Bosch, or Hitachi alternators instead of OEM (one of those companies makes the OEM anyway) too.
When I had a 98' Maxima and the alternator went out, I bought a remanufactured Hitachi on eBay and that one worked just fine for many years.
In my case my accessories battery is being starved of charge, I have changed the alternator, j367, and both batteries. The alternator delivers 14.9 volts to the starter battery, but only 13.1volts to the AGM bat, I keep getting 'switching off consumer electrics......'
I ordered an alternator with code 07C903021N (Hitachi LR1190-907E) and I hope it is the right one, because there are many versions and the all look the same, except for the position of the B+ post and the DFM terminal connector with respect to the orientation of the cooling tubes.
My alternator is neither a Bosch or a Reman. It was bought new and its Hitachi in brand. Came with lifetime warranty.
